Booking system launch for HWRCs

queue of cars

A new system for residents to book slots at a Hampshire Household Waste Recycling Centre will begin on Monday 15 June 2020. Residents need to make a booking to be able to access the sites from this date onwards. The system is being set up in response to some of the severe traffic congestion seen at many HWRCs since they reopened in May. Keep an eye on our website for further updates.

Making safer spaces in recovery

foot on pedal cycle

Temporary changes are being made across Hampshire to provide more road space for people walking and cycling after the coronavirus lockdown. Communities, schools and residents are encouraged to make suggestions for schemes which support social distancing, with priority given to those with the potential to make the most positive impact, and which meet criteria for funding.

Handpicked books from our libraries

Ready Reads, We select, you collect branding

We Select, You Collect - Ready Reads is a new book collection service from our libraries, where we select books, according to your preferences,
for collection from your local library. This is the first phase in our move to re-open libraries in Hampshire as safely as possible. Find out more and sign up using this online form. (Please don't visit the library until you've been given a time!)

#Walktherightway in your local area

View of green open fields into horizon

Now more than ever, people are exploring their local area and discovering pathways and trails they never knew existed. Along with the thrill of discovery, there’s also the benefits of being outside in the fresh air and the opportunity to connect with nature. It’s likely these routes use public rights of way – but what exactly does that mean? Find out more about public rights of way and their history.

Leave only your footprints

Enjoy Hampshire’s country parks and outdoor spaces responsibly for everyone’s benefit this summer. As summertime officially gets underway, we're asking visitors to Hampshire's countryside to please respect our fantastic outdoor spaces for the benefit of all. Please, park responsibly, take your litter home, and leave each beauty spot as you would wish to find it next time.

Help shape future of volunteering

An army of volunteers have been lending a hand to support vulnerable people the length and breadth of Hampshire. Our challenge now is to sustain this hugely beneficial impact for the future.  We're urging any past or present volunteers to give their views on their experiences as we launch a public survey in conjunction with Hampshire’s CVS Network and the University of Winchester.

More support for vulnerable families

The good work of community organisations supporting vulnerable families who have been struggling through the coronavirus pandemic is to continue, as 20 groups share £100,000 we've
made available.
The grants will be used to boost the counselling and support available to help families whose lives have been made even more challenging.

Looking into the future

pile of diaries with handwritten entries

Hampshire Archives and Local Studies and Wessex Film and Sound Archive hold material that tells the stories of Hampshire people going back many centuries. We're now inviting you to be a part of the archive of the future, by contributing to a contemporary legacy as we collect and preserve details of current events during the Covid-19 pandemic.

A thank you to carers in Hampshire

This national Carers’ Week, we're thanking the army of informal (unpaid) carers who support vulnerable loved ones across Hampshire, and encouraging them to make use of the available support that can help them in their caring role. Please don’t forget to look after your wellbeing too - it’s just as important as that of the person for whom you care. Find out about support available for carers in Hampshire.
