Corona Virus - A message from our Chair

A message from our Chair

Dear Parishoner
I assume you are all following the government advice about self-isolating and social distancing and although I do not wish to add to any information overload about coronavirus I thought I might point out some purely local information:

--  All playgrounds are meant to close and although I cannot realistically secure ours on the recreation ground I must suggest you do not use it.

--  The garden waste service is suspended and household waste centres are now closed.

--  The Borough Council's Parklands reception is now closed. The Council can be contacted by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or through Facebook and Twitter @BasingstokeGov or by calling          01256 844844.

--  The latest news and updates on the impact of Covid-19 on the Borough and its services can be found at www.basingstoke.gov.uk/coronavirus or again through Facebook and Twitter as above. You can also      sign up for regular e-newsletters at www.basingstoke.gov.uk/signup.

--  There is some council tax support available. Please visit This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

--  There is some support for local businesses affected by the outbreak including grants and the cancellation of business rates for those who are eligible.

To support the vulnerable and elderly the Borough Council and Basingstoke Voluntary Action have teamed up and are trying to match up suitable volunteers with community groups. If you are interested in helping out visit www.bvaction.org.uk/coronavirus-volunteering or call 01256423852.

Coronavirus – Volunteering Groups – Can We Help Your Group Find The Volunteers You Need? During the current crisis, here at BVA we are looking to provide a central point to promote the work of support groups and also those volunteering initiatives currently taking place within our borough.

Residents at an increased risk of illnesses who are self-isolating at home, including over 70's, pregnant women and anyone usually instructed to get a flu jab, and who have no nearby family and friends can register for support such as getting access to food and medicine.  This includes other  groups who may be struggling e.g. Universal Credit claimants waiting for payments. If you fall within any of these groups (or know anyone who does) you can call the Council on 01256 844844 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. Sadly as I fall in to the elderly category I cannot offer to shop for anyone myself, as I would have liked to, but if anyone is  having trouble getting out or getting a supermarket delivery please let me know and I will see if I can get someone to pick up some essentials for you.  Also, if anyone in the village is willing to shop for the housebound please get in touch. Although we may be in this for the long haul, remember that eventually a vaccine will be found. In the meantime, stay safe and if you have any specific worries please feel free to share them with me.

With kind regards

Sheila Campbell
