All Coordinators are asked to please pass this message on to all of your NW members & local residents. This mail is from the Community Safety Office at Basingstoke Police Station in the interest of public information. Please note - The author cannot always action feedback on the various issues.

Operation Sparkler.

Basingstoke Council, Police, Fire Service and other agencies are running “Operation Sparkler” from 29th October, covering the period around Halloween & Bonfire Night. They will be actioning reported incidents of Anti Social Behaviour and other incidents that may come up during their patrol period. An essential part of the operation is a request for all members of the public to be vigilant and to report any incidents via the 101 telephone line service. The most serious incidents will obviously take priority, but ALL reports will be logged for follow up. Do please report any Anti-Social incident in your area. Your call does count.

Rogue Traders

There are still instances being reported to the police about the activities of these persons. Please make sure that you always use a recommended trader and not someone who appears on your doorstep. Of particular current interest to the police are the Cole family currently believed to be offering services as Hampshire & Surrey Tree Services in Kempshott and rural areas of the borough. Typically they demand cash and disappear before removing any of the vegetation debris which they may cut down.  If in any doubt about any Cold Calling trader, contact Hampshire Trading Standards Quick Response Team on 01962 833666. Also the police would appreciate the details, especially descriptions of persons and vehicles, being reported via 101.

Police & Crime Commissioner Elections

These will take place on Thursday 15th November. There are currently 6 candidates for the Hampshire County and they should be publishing their summaries soon. You may have seen the television adverts as to how to find more information.

From October 26th, candidate information will appear on the website or you can call 0800 1 070708 to request information. Brief updates from all candidates are in the current Basingstoke Gazette. The candidates debate at Winchester University was well attended and should be available as a WINOL webcast Remember that the elected commissioner will have control of how policing in Hampshire is carried out for the next FOUR years. Make sure you get to read what they all have to say. Every vote counts so DON’T FORGET TO VOTE for your chosen candidate.

Telephone Scams.

Remember that the Computer fault scammers have not gone away, and every day scammers find new & novel ways to try to deprive you of your money or to get your bank information. Often a quick ‘Google’ of their telephone number can reveal helpful information. The best advice is to never agree to anything from a caller you do not know.

General Personal Security

With Christmas approaching, a timely reminder to take extra care of purses, wallets, cash etc. Don’t let shopping distractions make you a victim of theft at this time of year. Simple precautions with your valuables are always worthwhile
