Why do it?

See a beautiful 13c Church and follow the river Loddon across fields and water meadows. It is fairly flat with a few stiles, but can be boggy in places.

The Walk

Leave the recreation ground entrance and turn left following the footway, turning left again into Turgis Green just past the village pond and before the service station. Folow this road for 500m and just past the forge and 2 thatched cottages take the path marked on the right. This leads into fields where you bear left through a gate and then keep the hedge on the right to the woods. Over the stile and follow the track to the church. More info on the church is available here.

Leave the church by the road and cross the junction with Hartley Wespall Village Green on the right where you see a footpath marker opposite. This leads into fields where you turn right. Take this path with the woods on your right and follow it all the way across the fields and watermeadows. You’ll cross a stile under trees and a concrete bridge over a drain towards Longbridge Mill with its turbulent mill race and the main river Loddon. Shortly after you’ll meet the A33. Turn right for a short distance then cross and take the footpath, with the Loddon still on your left. Follow the paths as they arc round with the Loddon on your left all the while, until arriving at the fisheries where you join the tarmaced Potters Lane. Follow this to the footpath on the left just after Potters Cottage. Take this path keeping the line of trees on your right until it joins the main track. At the second junction take the footpath right (not the one that goes through the woods) and follow this with the hedge on your left, all the way to the A33 again. Cross and follow the footway back to the start.
